9 vols. in 8., roy. 8vo., First Edition thus, with coloured frontispieces, series titles and preliminaries in blue, and many thousands of photographs and illustrations (many toned in sepia or tinted in blue; many folding or full-page) and maps (many coloured in outline and a number folding); publisher's original binding of pictorial plum cloth, upper boards elaborately blocked and lettered in black, backstrips blocked in black and lettered in gilt, extreme page margins lightly browned else a remarkably well-preserved bright, clean, crisp set. Lovely set of the third and by far the largest of Hammerton's three monumental pictorial histories of the Great War. It was published throughout the conflict in 234 weekly parts, and subsequently issued in bound volumes as here. It is sometimes found in later, plain or home-made bindings; complete sets in the original elaborate bindings are scarce, especially in this condition. A SPLENDID SET. Enser, p.166.
