Books, which have always been both reading tools and sources of a passionate collector's art, can be divided into two categories: ancient or rare books and the so-called "modernism". The boundary line between the two is traditionally established in 1830. Until that date, the book was above all a handcrafted object, with all the advantages and defects that result from it, and all the parts of a book (from paper packaging to binding) were essentially manual processes. This also explains why, until the beginning of the 19th century, each circulation was around 300 copies.
